How we manage our social media channels, what we moderate, and how we respond to you there.

The Department of Finance uses social media to stay close to the public, share accurate information about its work, and listen to what customers have to say. This policy sets out how those channels are managed, what content is moderated, and how inquiries received through them are answered.

Policy Objectives

  • Regulate the management and use of social media channels to achieve positive engagement between the Department of Finance and the public, and to uphold professional rules and ethics.
  • Define the principles and guidelines to follow when publishing content on social media, so that the information provided is accurate and of high quality.
  • Promote transparency and credibility in the Department's communication with the public through social media.
  • Ensure privacy and compliance with the Department of Finance's information security policies.

Scope of the Policy

This policy applies to all official social media channels of the Department, including all content published through them. It also covers live chat on the Department's website.

Moderation Policy

The Department of Finance welcomes all opinions and suggestions that contribute to developing and enhancing its services, policies and decisions to better meet your needs. The Department reserves the full right to prevent the appearance of any content that may:

  • Pose a threat to security.
  • Contain inappropriate language.
  • Violate the privacy of others or be offensive to them.
  • Contravene local laws.
  • Be inappropriate, obscene or defamatory.
  • Include spam or promote commercial products or services.
  • Be interpreted as biased or harmful to any segment of society on the basis of race, colour, nationality, religion, status, etc.
  • Contain group or political discussions.
  • Infringe intellectual property rights.
  • Violate freedom of opinion and expression.
  • Fall outside the Department's scope of work.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in the participant being blocked.

Response and Evaluation Mechanism

The Department is committed to responding to public inquiries and comments relating to its work and initiatives through its social media channels as promptly as possible, following these steps:

  1. 1If the question is personal (private), the reply is sent as a direct message.
  2. 2If the question is of interest to a large segment of followers, it is answered publicly so the answer is available to everyone.
  3. 3If the answer is already available on the Department's website, the enquirer is directed to it through a direct link to the frequently asked questions page.

Interactions and data are also analysed to prepare periodic reports on the performance of the Department's social media channels.

Review and Audit

All published content is subject to periodic review by a specialised team to ensure compliance with the provisions of this policy. Any post that violates the policy will be removed, and the violator may be held legally accountable in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in the United Arab Emirates.
